Death Doula
-
Death Doulas, also called End-of-Life Doulas, are non-medical care providers who support individuals and their families/circles of support at the end of their life. This support can include services from sitting bedside with the dying to providing a listening ear to family members as they discuss the decisions that need to be made.

Death Doulas can provide support at any time in the lifespan, not just when someone is actively dying. While most commonly considered after diagnosis of a terminal illness or when natural death appears to be on the horizon, we can provide education on end-of-life care, completing Advanced Directives, and even planning one’s own funeral services. The goal is to help you contemplate what end-of-life decisions you would want to have in place before illness or accident occurs and sharing them with your circle of support ahead of time.

My job as a death doula is to be a non-medical, caring professional who can support the dying person by sitting bedside, advocating for their requests/wishes, supporting the family/circle of support in decision-making, and even tasks as simple as running errands so that family members can stay with their loved one. The services I provide will change case-by-case, but we will begin with a consult to provide a clear picture of the situation and what is needed.
